I’m Marloes Teunissen, a 26-year-old ArtCoDe (Art, Communication, and Design) student living in The Hague. I love to create social and interactive artworks that are at least somewhat or very technical. While working on these projects, I love to collaborate with others, so that is what I have been doing for most of the larger art projects. Learning from each other, growing together, and just having fun while creating gives me a lot of motivation. During the creation of art, I love to immerse myself in a challenge to learn new (mostly) technical skills as well as investing in accurate social themes that play a big role in our everyday life. That would describe the way all the projects I showcase on this website came to life!
How did I get here? Well, during my studies at the Academy of the Arts in Tilburg, I found that I love the combination of physical, technical, and social work the most. One day I would be working behind my computer, and the next, I would be working in the wood workshop. From researching specific social subjects, drawing models for possible art installations, building those models, to creating new Python or Unity projects. I love doing everything and if I could, I would do it all at once. But what is most important to me is creating together with others, learning from it, showing it to the world and having others experience and learn something from the art you've created!
EDUCATION
2019 - ongoing
Bachelor
Art, Communication and Design.
Fontys Academy of the Arts, Tilburg
2023
Minor
AI for Society.
Fontys ICT, Eindhoven
During my bachelor's studies at ArtCoDe, I learned to use a diverse set of skills, including woodworking, textiles, social/concept design, videography, photography, 3D modeling, creative coding, and interactive animation. Here, I learned how to combine all these skills to create interesting and unique social art projects. During my studies, I began using animation as my primary medium. From there, I started developing additional skills to create interactive animation. This involved working with various sensors like different Arduino sensors and Kinect, exploring different AI software like MediaPipe and OpenCV, and creating animations using a variety of mediums such as Unity, TouchDesigner, After Effects, Blender, Processing and Adobe Illustrator.
During my studies, I have gained a great interest in everything technical, which led to choosing my minor in Artificial Intelligence. Here, I could become better at understanding computer languages and the theory behind AI. During this minor, I worked on two different projects, one of which was in collaboration with Innovation Origin (a journalistic platform for innovative and technical news). Together with a group of students, we worked on their AI LaIO. LaIO is an AI that can generate news all by itself, monitored by journalists. For this, we created a new model (NLTK, K-Means) that can check the currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose of the sources LaIO is using to publish new news articles. The second project is one that is showed in my portfolio called “Flower AI.”.
